Jewish Food Festival comes to Little Rock May 6

LITTLE ROCK - The 2012 Jewish Food festival will be held Sunday, May 6, 2012, at the River Market Pavilion in downtown Little Rock.  The event will get underway with a classic Jewish breakfast of lox, bagels and cream cheese at 8:30 a.m. The general festival begins at 10 a.m. and ends at 4 p.m. 

Admission to the festival is free.

For the past several months, Jewish Food Festival volunteers have been preparing to host more than 15,000 visitors, hoping to surpass the 2011 attendance record.  The festival will include traditional Jewish foods such as old fashioned corned beef sandwiches, kosher hot dogs, cabbage rolls, blintzes, latkes, kugel and many more fantastic Jewish delicacies. The on-site bakery will offer homemade Jewish treats including rugelach, honey cakes, challah and mandel bread.  Israeli dishes will also be available, such as a meal of kabobs, falafel and Israeli salad.

Little Rock, Arkansas (March 19, 2012) - Central Arkansans looking to enjoy artisan ice cream as well as traditional soda fountain drinks now have a new venue.  The Green Corner Store will be opening a soda fountain and ice cream bar inside the store Saturday, April 7, 2012 at 12 Noon. Grand Opening festivities include live music and free mini cones, while supplies last, until 7 p.m.

Little Rock Police Department spokesman Lt. Terry Hastings said a witness saw a white Toyota Camry slam into the building around 5:20 a.m. Thursday — the driver apparently having missed the curve coming onto Markham off Kavanaugh. After the dust settled, the driver threw it into reverse, backed out of the restaurant, and drove away. An investigation is ongoing, though Hastings said they do have a good description of the car and a partial license plate.

SATURDAY: Second annual Halloween Ball tomorrow night with music from the "Dead Celt Society". Music starts at about 8:30 pm. There will be prizes for the best costume, so a good time is all but assured.

Friday, Nov. 4: Justin Patterson, Laura Lynn Danley and Gene Reid. Music starts at about 8:30 pm.

Saturday, Nov. 5: Live jazz and blues from the great Charlotte Taylor, with Matt Stone as her guest. Music starts at 9 pm.

Sunday, Nov. 6: Traditional Irish session at 2:30 pm. This is always a fun afternoon!

Domino’s Pizza and the Little Rock Fire Department are joining forces to promote fire prevention. From Oct. 13 to Oct. 15, anyone who orders a Domino’s pizza may be surprised at the door when their pizza arrives aboard a fire engine.  If all the smoke alarms in the home are working, the pizza is FREE.  If the smoke alarm is not working, the firefighters will replace the batteries and leave the home with a fully functioning alarm.

Cheese dip champs to be crowned at War Memorial

Little Rock – The Southern Cheese Dip Academy will host the Second Annual World Cheese Dip Championship at the event’s new location, AT&T Field at War Memorial Stadium, on Saturday, September 24, 2011, from 1:00pm until 7:30pm.

Come watch competitors from around the nation test their skills at creating the world’s best cheese dip.  The Championship will be divided into Amateur and Professional divisions, and winners will be determined by a panel of local celebrities, politicians, and food critics through a series of blind tastings.  Festival attendees will be able to vote to help determine who will receive this year’s PEOPLE'S CHOICE AWARDS presented by Arkansas Democrat-Gazette.

Winners will receive cash prizes, as well as trophies created exclusively for the event by a local artist, and the overall Professional Division Champion will also be awarded the opportunity to participate in the 2012 New Orleans Roadfood Festival held
