It's been one week since Joey the Garden Cat's surgery to remove his tumor. Dr. Terry Dew with Azzore Veterinary Specialists in Russellville took Joey's cast off today.

He says he will have to stay in a cage that prevents him from jumping and injuring his leg for about six weeks. Dew says since the cast is off, Joey will just assume he's healthy and it could really hurt him if he jumps and lands on his leg, so it's for his own protection.

His momma/agent is taking good care of him although her nerves are a little shot. :) Thanks for all the well wishes, we appreciate your concern for Joey.

On Monday, April 23, Joey the Garden Cat had surgery to remove a mass on the tibia of his back left leg. His surgery went well.

Dr. Terry Dew with Azzore Veterinary Specialists in Russellville removed the affected portion of Joey's tibia as well, and a bone plate was put in place for extra stability during healing process.  

Joey will also have a soft wrap for extra stability and this will remain in place for 7-10 days until his follow up appointment.

The tumor and the affected bone have been sent to Dr. Doss at Doss and Hennings. We should receive the pathology results in about a week.

On Thursday, April 5th we took Joey the Garden Cat to his veterinarian Dr. Bob Hale of Briarwood Animal Hospital for what we thought was an injured front paw.  While x-raying it they discovered a growth on his back leg.   

Dr. Hale reached out to his friend Dr. Terry Dew with Azzore Veterinary Specialist in Russellville.  Dr. Dew is the only board certified small animal surgeon in the state of Arkansas. 

Joey was taken to Russellville on April 9th where he took a CT scan of the tumor and discovered it originated from the bone so he took a biopsy. We should have the results of the pathology report next week.
