LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KTHV) -- THV 11's Mark Edwards sits down with Trey Reid from the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission to talk about waterfowl in the Natural State.

The Arkansas Game and Fish Commission is hosting a youth waterfowl hunt this weekend. Hunting starts on Saturday, February 2 and ends on Sunday, February 3. Hunting is open each day starting 30 minutes before sunrise and ends a sunset. Youth can harvest ducks, geese, coots and mergansers this weekend.

The youth hunt is open to kids ages 15 and younger. Youth who have completed a hunter education course must be accompanied by a mentor who is 18 or older. If youth have not completed the course, they must be accompanied by an adult 21 or older.

There is currently a light goose conservation order in place in the Natural State. Light geese aren't only a nuisance to Arkansas farmers. They have become so abundant, they are destroying their nesting grounds in the Arctic Tundra.

The conservation order is in designed so hunters can reduce snow, blue and Ross' goose numbers through increased harvest. During this time, many waterfowl hunting regulations are relaxed.
