Baptist Health opens new counseling center | News
LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (Baptist Health) - Some Arkansas health professionals are trying to meet the mental health crisis.
Baptist Health opened up its Counseling Center on Mon., Dec. 3. The Baptist Health Counseling Center's goal is to provide high-quality family counseling and it's based on the hospital's Christian values.
"I've always had that desire to care for people in the social and mental health perspective in addition to my counseling," says Dr. Charles Chamblee, the therapist of the Baptist Health Counseling Center (BHCC).
The National Alliance on Mental Illness estimates 116,000 Arkansans live with serious mental illness.
"I saw so many pastors overwhelmed with counseling needs and simply couldn't take care of the number of people who came in," says Dr. Chamblee.
The center will offer a variety of services including counseling for marriages, careers, grief, and stress management.
"It's not always somebody needs medication. Sometimes they benefit by having somebody to talk to," says Dr. Chamblee.
The center will offer a variety of services including counseling for marriages, careers, and stress management. Baptist Health is filling a need and so are others. Universities and colleges have counseling centers for students and staff. The Department of Human Services offers alcohol, drug abuse, and gambling therapy. Of course, there are several private practices like Chenal Therapy. It's also not a bad idea to check with your employer's human resources department.
The center charges $75 a session. It currently does not accept insurance but offers discounts to ordained pastors and Baptist Health employees.
Located off Exit 128, 11401 Interstate 30, at the Baptist Health Southwest Campus, the BHCC will be open Monday through Friday, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., with extended hours available on Wednesday and Thursday evenings. To schedule an appointment, please call 501-202-7587. People of all faiths are accepted at the counseling center and will be treated with respect, empathy, and acceptance regardless of age, race, sex, religion, ethnicity, or socio-economic status.
