Maumelle Relay for Life Recruiting Teams, Participants

Volunteers for The Relay for Life, the American Cancer Society’s overnight event that celebrates the lives of those who have battled cancer, remembers loved ones lost and fights back against the disease by raising money for research, are recruiting participants to take part in Maumelle’s May event.

JaNan Davis, the event’s co-chair, said 33 teams have been formed and 134 people have signed up to take part in the festivities. “We have already raised $6,200 of our goal of $65,000 to go toward cancer research and programs to help those fighting the disease in Arkansas,” Davis said.

Davis said participants can sign up individually on a team that has already been formed or start a team of their own. “It’s so easy to do. You pay $10 and sign up online. Then you set a goal to raise an amount you’re comfortable with using the tools the website provides. It’s as easy as sending an email to a few friends to ask if they will sponsor your participation in the event,” she said.
