New employment firm helps offenders, local businesses

New employment firm helps offenders, local businesses

Terry Williams has a love for former prison inmates. She believes in them so much that, in an economy that is less than robust, she just launched an employment firm – Little Rock-based Ramoth, Inc. – to help recently released Arkansas and Louisiana inmates find jobs.

Though it’s a unique concept, Williams said she doesn’t consider it a risk.

That’s because when it comes to ex-inmates, Williams is an expert. The daughter of a police officer and wife of the City of Maumelle, Ark.’s police chief, she has decades of experience working as the director of faith-based halfway houses for federal inmates called City of Faith. Based in Louisiana and Little Rock, Williams’ programs have put thousands of former federal prisoners to work – successfully.  Now she is hoping to help state-level offenders find jobs.

Arkansas Times: Glasgow search proves fruitless, expensive

From original post by Max Brantley:

Officers with the Little Rock Police Department spent several days in late January guarding a windswept soybean field near England where Faulkner County Jail inmate Jon Brawner said the body of missing construction executive John Glasgow was buried, only to have ground penetrating radar brought in by the Arkansas Archeological Survey on January 26 turn up nothing but some ancient Native American sites and a little farming debris.

Man arrested after struggle with deputy in Target restroom

Man arrested after struggle with deputy in Target restroom

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KTHV) - A Little Rock man is under arrest for allegedly shoplifting at a local Target store.

An off duty Pulaski County Sheriff's deputy went inside the Target on N. University to use the restroom, and while inside he says he heard someone on the phone in the next stall say, "I got the drugs and sticks. I'll be there soon."

This caught the deputy's attention. The officer says he looked through the door and saw the suspect, Charles Hicks, 30, try to open a plastic package with pliers.

The deputy then left the bathroom and went to the customer service desk. He took off his jacket which was covering his sheriff's shirt, gun, and badge and gave his jacket to an employee. He asked the employee to call security.

The deputy went back into the bathroom and knocked on the stall door. The deputy says Hicks said, "What?" Then the deputy said, "Sheriff's Office. I need to talk to you."

Man arrested for allegedly trying to burn grandfather’s house down

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KTHV) – Pulaski County Sheriff’s deputies arrested Christopher DeShaun Smith Sunday night after Smith supposedly set a fire in his grandfather’s house on Highway 365.

According to the incident report, Smith got into an argument with his grandfather Jimmie Smith that afternoon around 2:30 pm. Jimmie then went back to watching television, only to smell smoke minutes later.

The report says Jimmie found a pile of clothing in Christopher’s room that had been set on fire. The blaze was going up the wall of the house. Jimmie Smith told deputies he was able to put the fire out himself before authorities arrived.

Investigators found Christopher Smith at a friend’s house down the road.

The Sheriff’s Department says Christopher initially denied knowing about the fire, but his girlfriend told investigators that earlier she’d heard Smith threaten to burn the house down.
