Grants available for indy filmmakers

BATESVILLE, Ark. – Arkansas independent filmmakers are invited to apply for one of three $30,000 grants administered by the Ozark Foothills Filmfest. Filmmakers may apply for funds for the production of a feature length (40 minutes or longer) narrative, documentary, or experimental film.

Projects must be filmed primarily in Arkansas and use at least 75 percent Arkansans in the cast and crew.

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – The 12th Annual Rock to North Little Rock St. Patrick's Day Parade will be held on Saturday, March 12 at 1 p.m.

The Parade begins on Third Street in downtown Little Rock near the main Post Office, passes Dugan's Irish Pub at Third and Rock Streets, travels through River Market, crosses the Main Street Bridge into North Little Rock ending in the Argenta Historic District. The reviewing stand will be located in front of Cregeen's Irish Pub at Main and Broadway in North Little Rock.

A program of traditional Irish music and dance will be held on the main stage in North Little Rock following the parade from 2-4 p.m.

The parade is presented by the Irish Cultural Society of Arkansas and sponsored by the city of North Little Rock and the Regional Recycling and Waste Reduction District. For more information, visit IrishArkansas.org or call 501-868-6416.

St. Vincent Tour de Paul 5k has Olympic Trials Qualifier

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. -- The St. Vincent Tour de Paul 5k will be held April 9 this year.  Details are at https://www.stvincenthealth.com/tourdepaul/index.html.

This year we will have 2012 Olympic Trials Qualifier, Leah Thorvilson – find her at this link http://www.leahthorvilson.com/ , who is from Little Rock and a UALR graduate, running in the race.  Leah will participate in a Catch Me If You Can event as part of the race.  Runners pay extra to be given a head start and Leah will catch up and outrun them. 

The Tour de Paul 5k is one of three St. Vincent events scheduled April through May. There is a tennis tournament and golf tournament.  See Link above.  All of the events are fundraisers for the Longevity Center at St.

2 men electrocuted during home renovation

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KTHV) -- Two men were electrocuted while renovating a home in Little Rock.

According to Capt. Weaver with the Little Rock Fire Department, two men were attempting to renovate a home at 3306 H. Street when their metal scaffolding got tangled in some power lines.

MEMS and the fire department had to wait until the electricity was turned off. Both men were pronounced dead at the scene.

One of the men has been identfied as Ignacio Camorilla, 33, of Little Rock. Police have not released the other man's name because next of kin have not been notified.

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KTHV) -- On Thursday, Feb. 24, the LRSD Board of Directors approved the following calendar change regarding weather makeup days:

Friday, March 18 will be a full day student contact day. The remainder of the make up days will be made at the end of the school calendar year.

  • Friday, June 3 will be a full day for students.
  • Monday, June 6 will be a full day for students.
  • Tuesday, June 7 will be a full day for students.
  • Wednesday, June 8 will be a full day for students.
  • Thursday, June 9 will be a 1/2 day for students.

McClellan HS receives $35,000 Cameron grant for teaching programs

McClellan HS receives $35,000 Cameron grant for teaching programs

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. -- Cameron Valves and Measurement was recently recognized as a Partner in Education for McClellan High School. Camerons's global affairs committee approved a grant for $35,000, which McClellan will be using to place high-tech interactive teaching systems in each math classroom, and individual literacy libraries in every English classroom.

The presentation of the grant will occur at McClellan on Monday, March 7.
