Museum of Discovery prepares for closing doors

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (Museum of Discovery) -- The Museum of Discovery is Little Rock's oldest museum dedicated to science and technology learning for all ages.

The renovation, made possible by a more than $9 million capital grant from the Donald W. Reynolds Foundation, increases the Museum of Discovery's total square footage to 50,000 and will include a new public use area of more than 4,000 square feet.

The museum closes for renovations at 5 p.m. on Sunday, April 3 and will not reopen until January 2012.

"We have been building up to this point for several years now, and are thrilled to start tearing down walls to make room for a bigger, more interactive museum for all ages," said Nan Selz, executive director of the Museum of Discovery. "With the help of a generous grant through the Donald W. Reynolds Foundation and many donors who are helping us match that grant, we will open a truly extraordinary space in 2012."

The Hero on Horseback...Let Lauren Ride

A Hero on Horseback trotted through Central Arkansas this weekend.

I caught up with him in Malvern on a rainy Saturday and you can see his heartwarming story here.

But I couldn't let the opportunity pass me by--I asked if I could ride. Sophie didn't care too much that I was in the saddle...made me think about when a kid doesn't mind the babysitter because it's not his/her parent.

And yes, if you listen closely you can hear me flirt with Cowboy Chris.

A tale of two rivers

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KTHV) --The Big Dam Bridge is a popular site for thousands of Arkansans. And for outdoor enthusiasts, another bridge will soon connect two major trails.

Pulaski County Judge Buddy Villines says, "People are excited! People stop me virtually everywhere I go and say when is the bridge gonna be open?'"

Villines is behind the planning for the Two Rivers Bridge.

He explains, "We wanted a connection to Two Rivers Park. Once we established that, you're on your way to Pinnacle Mountain and beyond."

Once the Clinton Bridge and the Two Rivers Park Bridge are complete, pedestrians and cyclists will be able to access both sides of the river. So from Little Rock to North Little Rock, Maumelle and Conway will all be accessible by bridge.

Construction began a year ago and by contract is supposed to be finished by August. But Villines says he's impressed with the progress and expects it to be finished early.
