Justice official to discuss sexual assault

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) -- The head of the U.S. Department of Justice's office on violence against women is coming to Little Rock later this month to talk about sexual assault.

The Arkansas Coalition Against Sexual Assault says Susan Carbon will discuss sexual violence as a societal problem on April 21 at the Clinton School of Public Service.

President Obama named Carbon, a former New Hampshire judge, to direct the Justice Department's Office on Violence Against Women.
That office gives financial and technical aid to communities that develop ways to end domestic violence, sexual assault and stalking.

Today's THV at 6:30 p.m.: Little Rock budget crunch

A fork in the road for the city of Little Rock.  Public services that have been provided over the years may be in jeopardy because of a lack of funding.  Services include upgrading parks and buying new police cruisers.

City leaders want citizens to decide what services most important and share ideas on how to fund services.

Several public hearings have been scheduled, including one Tuesday at 6 p.m. at the Northwest Police Sub-Station at 1001 Kanis Road, and the city of Little Rock has several more meetings planned.

Tuesday on Today's THV at 6:30 p.m., THV's Dawn Scott interviews Vice Mayor Dean Kumpuris and finds out the purpose behind these public hearings.

Rock star Corey Smith in LR this Sunday, April 17

Rock star Corey Smith in LR this Sunday, April 17

With seven albums and dozens of sold-out shows now under his belt — including at famed venues such as The Roxy in Atlanta and Georgia Theatre in Athens — Corey Smith brings his popular, unpretentious Americana act with country, rock and blues influences to Revolution Music Room on Sunday, April 17.

Since winning a songwriting contest and releasing his first album, "Undertones," in 2003, Smith has been soaring underneath the radar of the major labels by nursing a loyal fan base all over the South who appreciates his back-to-basics honesty in both his music and his lyrics.

"Drawing heavily from the blues, country and rock traditions of the South, he applies the back-porch twang of an acoustic guitar, a soulful singing voice, and well-crafted lyrics to the task of creating music that is at once distinct and familiar," Jambase.com says.

His supporting band is not bad either; this guy and his friends know how to "Party" — incidentally, one of his most popular

Pulaski County coroner submits resignation

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KTHV) -- The Pulaski County coroner submitted a letter of resignation Monday.

Garland Camper submitted his resignation letter to Pulaski County Judge Buddy Villines, who reportedly asked him to do so.

Villines said he asked for Camper's resignation because of continuing conflicts between the coroner and various law enforcement agencies. The county judge said virtually every police agency in the county, including the sheriff's office and the Little Rock Police Department, had complained about Camper expressing his opinions about ongoing cases.

Camper has been coroner in Pulaski County since 2008. Today's THV reporter BJ Steed will have more details on Camper's resignation on "Today's THV at 6:00" and todaysthv.com.
