Beebe: Long recovery from Ark. flooding

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) -- Gov. Mike Beebe says recovery in Arkansas from flooding will be long-term and some farmers will face devastating losses.

He addressed members of the Delta Grassroots Caucus, Friday. Farmers in the Delta are struggling to stay afloat as flood waters continue to rise.

"Other issues in Prairie County, just east of Des Arc is the constant concern of sand boils and the degradation those sand boils can have on the integrity of a levee," says Gov. Beebe.

The integrity of the economy is at risk. Chris Masingill is the federal co-chair of the Delta Regional Authority that works to stimulate economic development in the Delta.

"These numbers are going to be enormous for public safety and health, infrastructure, business, and commerce. Those are the areas impacted the hardest," says Chris Masingill.

Masingill says he can't speculate how much money this means.

The "Southern Journeys" exhibit, which runs through August 2011, is one way they're doing this. But according to Quantia Fletcher, director of education at the museum, there's more than one way to get into the act.

I caught up with "Key" at the museum earlier this week. Hear what she had to say about the Mosaic Templars' upcoming events.
