World can watch UALR graduate nearly 1,500 Saturday

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (May 19, 2011) - UALR celebrates spring commencement Saturday, May 21, with traditional pomp and circumstance. But this year, new age tools will help friends and family across the globe watch the ceremony in real time and post congratulations as their grad receives his or her degree.

During the ceremonies, UALR Chancellor Joel E. Anderson will present honorary doctorates to Dr. Joseph Francisco, the 2010 president of the American Chemical Society, and to Cheryl Chapman, founding director of UALR Children International.

Graduates of the College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences; the College of Education; and the College of Professional Studies will receive their degrees at a 9:30 a.m. ceremony at the Jack Stephens Center.

Judge: 2 school districts declared desegregated

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KTHV) -- Judge Brian Miller rules Arkansas can end nearly all desegregatin funding to three school districts.

The news came sudden, right before the North Little Rock's School Board meeting.

"We are excited about Judge Miller's ruling," says Shara Brazear, the district's communications director.

Sheriff's deputies host motorcyle 'Teddy Bear Run'

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. -- The Twelfth Annual TEDDY BEAR RUN will be held Saturday, May 21.  Each spring the Ladies of Harley sponsor and conduct this fun motorcycle run from the Landers Harley Davidson on I-30 to the Pulaski County Regional Detention Facility.  They bring with them thousands of teddy bears that are donated to the Sheriff’s Office.  The teddy bears are distributed to Sheriff’s Deputies to give to children in need or who are going through a traumatic situation.

The motorcycle run will leave Landers Harley Davidson at 01 p.m. and arrive at the upper front parking lot of the Detention Facility (3201 W. Roosevelt Road) about 15 minutes later.  Sheriff Holladay will welcome the riders and help unload the teddy bears with Pulaski County Sheriff’s Office Reserve Deputies.

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. –The Arkansas Historic Preservation Program now offers free cell-phone tours of historic sites around the state, AHPP Director Frances McSwain announced today.

"These cell-phone tours will allow visitors to get in-depth information on historic properties at the touch of a button," McSwain said. "We currently have 15 cell-phone tours recorded and will add more in the coming months."
